New UKF Dan Grades - 28th November 2010 

 

 

 

At the end of the Annual UKF Course and Dan Grading, a total of 3 students were successful in their 1st Dan Grading. Kneeling from L-R are: Patrick McEleny 1st Dan, Glen Barron 1st Dan and Padraig Kerlin 1st Dan. Congratulations lads. Also, well done to all the students who braved the Artic Conditions to attend the annual course.

 

 

 

IKAB National Championships (Dublin)

14th November 2010

 

 

 

 

Congratulations is extended to the UKF Squad who achieved success and medal placings in 22 events at the Irish National Karate championships 2010 in Dublin. Squad members took Gold in the Senior Male Kumite, Senior Ladies Kumite, and the Senior Team Kumite. The UKF Squad achieved Gold in 10 Events, Silver in 8 Events and Bronze in 4 events. Well done to all, your hard work at squad training all during the summer has paid off and the UKF is proud of you all.

 

 

 

 

 

UKF Chairman and UKF Chief Referee Appointments

Congratulations is extended to the appointment of Martin McCole 2nd Dan to the position of UKF Chairman. Also, congratulations is also extended to Columba McLaughlin 5th Dan who was appointed to the postion as UKF Chief Referee.

 

 

 

 

 

Carlow International Championships

2nd October 2010

 

Congratulations to all the UKF Squad who competed in the 2010 Carlow International Championships. The UKF Squad took home a total of 5 Gold, 7 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. There was a outstanding performance by Adam Anderson who took Gold in the Cadet Heavyweight Kumite section. Well done to all of you and the UKF is proud of your performances.

June 2010 - UKF appoint a new Kata Coach

 At the UKF General Committee meeting held on the 22nd June 2010, Sensei Mary Doherty 4th Dan was unanimously appointed UKF Kata Coach (Wado Ryu). During the proposal, the UKF General Committee was reminded about  Mary's  achievements at National and International level in the last 3 years. In Kata competition, Mary is currently WUKF World Bronze medalist, WUKF European Silver medalist in Kata, IWKU Bronze medalist and IIKO Bronze Medalist. Our best wishes and congratulations go to Mary on her appointment.

The UKF held its annual self-defense course in the Aileach Centre in May 2010 under the instruction of

Sensei Shawn Barron 5th Dan.

Irish International Karate Competition

Ardee, Ireland 24th April 2010

 The Ulster Karate-Do Federation squad were successful at the IIKC in Ardee, Co. Meath, Ireland today. The won 3 Gold Medals, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze. Dermot McFeely took Gold in the Senior Grade Male Cadet Kumite, Sean Campbell (Gold) in the Junior Grade Cadet Kumite, and Laura McGlinchey (Gold) in the Junior Grade Female Cadet Kumite. Glen Barron took Silver in the Senior Grade Cadet Kumite, Katy Holly (Silver) in the Junior Grade Female Cadet Kumite, and Michael Watters (Silver) in the Masters Junior Grade Kumite. Shawn Barron took Bronze in the Senior Grade Masters Kata, Denise Donaghey (Bronze) in the Senior Ladies Kata, and Sean Campbell gained a 2nd medal by taking Bronze in the Junior Grade Cadet Kata. Columba refereed at the event and Dermott McLaughlin was Coach. Congratulations to all.

 

 

 

World Union of Karate-Do Federations European Senior Championships

Santarém, Portugal 7th - 11th April 2010

 The Ulster Karate-Do Federation senior squad were successful at the WUKF European Senior and Veteran Championships in Santatém in Portugal in April 2010. While Columba and Denis officiated at the event, Denise Donaghey won Gold in the Senior Ladies Kumite 60Kgs+, Mary Doherty won Silver in the Ladies Veteran Kata event, Shawn Barron won Bronze in Veteran Kumite and another Bronze in Veteran Kata. The UKF Ladies Senior Team of Denise Donaghey, Tracey McBrearty and Majella O'Reilly took a Bronze in the Senior Ladies Shobu Sanbon Team Kumite. Well done to all. Also, Dermott McLaughlin, Martin McCole and Dean Barron competed as well but were unlucky in their events.

UKF Invitation Tournament

26th - 28th March 2010

 The UKF Invitation Tournament 2010 was successfully held in Burnfoot, Co. Donegal over the weekend. The WUKF Regional Referee Course was held with Mr. Sever Cucu, Chairman of the WUKF Refereeing Commission and 20 Officials from Ireland and England took part. At the Tournament on Sunday 28th March, almost 300 competitors took part and federations came from Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, England and Romania. The UKF Management Committee would like to thank all competitors and officials who helped make it a success. Promotions and Congratulations to: Association Referee (Martin McCole), Association Judges (Dean Barron, Robert Worthington, James McBrearty, Tracey McBrearty, Matthew Spain, Paul Taylor, Sonia Powell); Provisional Judge (Denise Donaghey).

International Wado Karate Union Championships 2010

20th March 2010 - Budapest, Hungary

 

Mary Doherty took a Bronze Medal in the Ladies Veteran Kata at the IWKU Championships in Budapest on Saturday 20th March 2010. Also, Joe Smith took Gold in the Male Veteran Kumite. A well deserved congratulations to both. Absolutely brilliant.

 

Irish Karate Grand Prix Open

6th March 2010 Dublin, Ireland

The UKF Squad who took part with Shawn Barron 5th Dan (Coach and Competitor) on the left and Denis Donaghey 4th Dan (WUKF Judge) on right

 Congratulations to the UKF Squad who competed at the Irish Karate Grand Prix Open in Dublin. The tournament was organised by Abdu Shahar. The UKF did very well in achieving 3 Gold Medals (Shawn Barron Veterans Kumite; Denise Donaghey Senior Ladies Kumite, and Male Cadets Rotation Team. The UKF also got 6 Silver Medals (Dean Barron Senior Male Lightweight Kumite, Conor Kerlin Under 12 Boys Kumite, Padraig Kerlin Cadets Heavy Weight Kumite, Dermot McFeely Cadets Light Weight Kumite, Female Cadet Kumite Team, and the Senior Male Rotation Team. The UKF SQuad also took 4 Bronze Medals (Conor Kerlin Under 12 Boys Kata, Denise Donaghey Senior Ladies Wado Kata, Dermot McFeely Senior Male Wado Kata and Mary Doherty who picked up a Bronxe Medal when she was co-opted onto the Collon Team. Shawn travelled as UKF Coach and both Columba and Denis added to their National Profiles by gaining refereeing experience. Well done to all.
